We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

God of justice and hope, while as Christians we are not to be “of this world,” we are still “in this world.” We pray that leaders of states and nations, legislatures and parliaments, will seek your face and work for the welfare of all citizens. We long for the day when the kingdoms of this world become the kingdom of our Lord, in which Christ shall reign forever and ever. Show us how our decisions and actions may help advance that goal. Father God, thank You that You are stronger than any criminal groups. We pray that You would thwart the plans of guerrilla gangs and protect church leaders and others who speak against them. Give resilience and joy to Christians who've converted from indigenous faiths, and may they increasingly know Your love and presence. Amen.
